Jailed for cashing Chase check at Chase bank
Wrong just snowballs.
1) Clerk looks at you funny because you have a large check and you say you just bought a house in town and you don’t look the way she thinks you should look.
2) She has you thrown in jail for your REAL CHECK. I don’t know
3) Bank figures out their mistake and makes minimal effort to notify police. Case’s detective is out of town, so they make no further effort.
4) You stay in jail all weekend, miss work, and get fired.
Fortunately Ikenna Nkoju was able to keep his house.
Still.
What the crap.
UPDATE: 4:28 PM Chase Bank issues apology a year after the incident and the day it went viral. Glad to see Nkoju has Chase Bank’s attention, at least, and wish him the best pursuing restitution.
UPDATE: July 18 Consumerist: Chase Hugs It Out With Man It Had Thrown In Jail For Cashing Non-Fake Check The terms of the accord were not disclosed, but I hope Mr. Njoku feels satisfied.
